What we learned restoring a 200-year-old pine floor

The floor in Casa Ilha’s original section had been painted over four times by four different decades of taste. Stripping it back took a carpenter eleven days and taught us more about the house’s original proportions than any drawing we’d made.

Old materials are a record, not just a texture. We look for the record now before we spec anything new.
